about the artist
Avery Poole (Drew Ragosta) is a multi-disciplinary artist with work expanding from oil painting to photography and video. Born in 1995, Ragosta started painting at a young age, influenced by the works of 20th artists including Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, and Basquiat. Graduating from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut with a major in Creative Writing and a minor in Studio Arts, he began working professionally under the alias “Avery Poole.”
He first exhibited a body of work called “Anonymous” in 2017 at the Broad Street Gallery in Hartford as part of a fine arts thesis. At the conclusion of the exhibition, he was awarded the Ann C. Helman Prize For Painting. Since then, Poole has worked as an emerging artist exhibiting in galleries across New York City, the Hudson River Valley, and London.
Poole’s work weaves together traditional painting techniques, pop art, and commercial influences. His compositions embrace dark humor and narrative to make statements about the inner workings of the world. Currently, Poole has exhibitions on display at the Pictor Gallery in New York City and Bank Art Gallery in Newburgh, New York.
